Rank order data in DEA: A general framework

چکیده

In data envelopment analysis (DEA), performance evaluation is generally assumed to be based upon a set of quantitative data. In many real world settings, however, it is essential to take into account the presence of qualitative factors when evaluating the performance of decision making units (DMUs). Very often rankings are provided from best to worst relative to particular attributes. Such rank positions might better be presented in an ordinal, rather than numerical sense. The paper develops a general frame work for modeling and treating qualitative data in DEA and provides a unified structure for embedding rank order data into the DEA framework. The existing techniques are discussed and their equivalence is demonstrated. Both continuous and discrete projection models are provided. It is shown that qualitative data can be treated in conventional DEA methodology. 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

An integrated simulation-DEA approach to multi-criteria ranking of scenarios for execution of operations in a construction project

The purpose of this study is to examine different scenarios for implementing operations in the pre-construction phase of a project, based on several competing criteria with different importance levels in order to achieve a more efficient execution plan. This paper presents a new framework that integrates discrete event simulation (DES) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to rank different scena...

Alternative ranking method in Dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis (DDEA)

The motivation of this paper is to propose such equitable method for ranking all decision making units (DMUs) in dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis (DDEA) framework. As far as we are aware there is not more studies in dynamic DEA literature. What's more, in such cases the best operating unit is important to be sampled for the others in under evaluated time periods. However, in this special conce...

Discriminating among Relatively Efficient Units in Data Envelopment Analysis: A Comparison of Alternative Methods and Some Extensions

This paper concentrates on methods for comparing activity units found relatively efficient by data envelopment analysis (DEA). The use of the basic DEA models does not provide direct information regarding the performance of such units. The paper provides a systematic framework of alternative ways for ranking DEA-efficient units. The framework contains criteria derived as by-products of the basi...

Portfolio Performance Evaluation in a Modified Mean-Variance-Skewness Framework with Negative Data

The present study is an attempt toward evaluating the performance of portfolios using mean-variance-skewness model with negative data. Mean-variance non-linear framework and mean-variance-skewness non- linear framework had been proposed based on Data Envelopment Analysis, which the variance of the assets had been used as an input to the DEA and expected return and skewness were the output. C...

New model for ranking DMUs in DDEA as a special ‎case‎

‎The purpose of this paper is to offer the equitable method for ranking Decision Making Units(DMUs) based on the Dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis (DDEA) concept, where quasi-fixed inputs or intermediate products are the source of inter-temporal dependence between consecutive periods. In fact, this paper originally makes the use of an approach extending the ranking of DMUs in DEA by Khodabakhsh...
